Bushcraft Skills Course
22nd – 24th February 2012
Venue Bowley Outdoor Education Centre, Great Harwood, near Blackburn Starting evening of the 22nd, departing late afternoon on the 24th.
Cost £95 per person which includes:
Instruction Use of tools and equipment whilst on the course
Certificate of Training The course will cover:
- Knife and Saw skills
- Fire lighting: natural tinders, fire lighting techniques, charcloth, flint and steel, feather sticks
- Tarps
- Hammocks
- Spoon and butter knife carving
- Bread (bannock) making
- Worm Baskets
- Waigan Pole
- And more (full programme will follow upon booking)
The course is aimed at people who wish to use these skills with groups, and will take into account the variety of age groups that we work with.
We will be camping over on both nights, participants would need to bring their own tent and food (a fire will be going for cooking – there is an opportunity to chip in and cook a meal together).
The course is run by Mike Rushton of Tamarack - Mike has been living and working outdoors all his life. Starting in the Scouts, then onto the Army Cadet Force, he was involved in the Celtic Survival School at the age of 12. He was a British Army sniper and physical training instructor, is a qualified Arborist with over 20 years working with trees, has worked for Lancashire County Council as a Countryside Ranger, is a Mastercraftsmen drystone waller and has carried out many conservation tasks within Lancashire such as tree planting, wetland and habitat management and hedge laying. He has lived and worked with the Sami Reindeer herders of Northern Sweden and the Hadza Bushmen of Tanzania. He is an avid open boat canoeist, camper, walker, snowshoer, dogsledder and environmentalist.
