BORDER SEVENS HIKING CHALLENGE SUNDAY 29 MAY 2016
This is an annual walking challenge competition open to all members of the Scout and Guide movements and the invitation is open to all counties and districts.
The Challenge for 2016 will be held on Sunday 29 May starting at 7:30am. The route for Explorers will approach the Lancashire and Yorkshire borders from Towneley Park southeast of Burnley to Dunhazles West of Hellifield, that’s a distance of approx. thirty-five miles in eleven hours! The shorter option for Scouts starts at the Limestone Trail Car Park, near the Wind Farm on Long Causeway and ends at Earby St Peters Church, a distance of 22 miles. It is, however, possible for Scouts to aim to reach Moor Lodge Farm at Scar Top Pine, a distance of only 11 miles which should be well within the capability of all Scouts.
Are you up for the challenge? Hikers will be rewarded with special badges that may be worn on their uniform on the left sleeve!
A BRONZE BADGE WILL BE AWARDED FOR THOSE WALKING 10 MILES TO MOOR LODGE FARM, A SILVER FOR 20 MILES AND GOLD FOR THE FULL DISTANCE OF 35 MILES!!
Full details are shown in the two attachments. Don’t miss this great opportunity to enjoy a day on the hills! In view of the possibility of warmer weather, the personal kit list may be relaxed accordingly but it must be adequate for the expected conditions.
